No goal for Thommo to celebrate
Monday, 14th Apr 2014Birthday boy claims "Earlier in the season we were scoring for fun"
Ryan Thomson was disappointed not to add to his 18 Dunfermline goals on Saturday but he played down the importance of personal ambitions:-
"The most important thing was to secure second place, we did that and hopefully in the next few games we can get back playing our best football when the pressure is off. There is always a bit of pressure but we were always comfortable. At the end of the day you wanted it sealed as soon as possible and we have done that with three matches still to play."
Ryan who was 23 on Sunday described as 50-50 his claim that Andy Geggan's first half header had crossed the line:- "It was close to be honest, I am not too sure."
Some momentum is now required especially after the last seven matches that have seen Dunfermline score just four goals. Ryan said that "we need to get back to taking chances and scoring the way we were earlier in the season.
"By the time we get to the play offs hopefully we are back in full swing and our confidence is back. Earlier in the season we were scoring for fun; teams go through wee stages like these.
"I do not know what the gaffer's plans are now, whether he wants to rest boys or try some new formations he can do it now."
Attendances at East End Park have exceeded many in the Championship and even some in the SPL this season. After 109 appearances for Dunfermline Ryan stressed he understood just how important promotion was for the fans:-
"It is a massive club especially in this division. All the incentives are there to go up this season with Rangers going up and Hearts coming down. It is going to be the biggest First Division crowds that I have known and that's without knowing who the other team is going to be - whether another SPL teams might come down."
