In the second half of Saturday's game against Forfar Athletic, Ryan Williamson came close to scoring his first senior goal but in his debut season promotion is still his primary goal. He discussed his most recent chances and the match:-

"John Potter had told me before the game and in the Under 20s game on Tuesday, to get myself as far up in the game as I could. So if the ball was to break to the back post, then I would be in there for the chance, hoping for the opportunity to stick it away."

For the young full back who was starting his 15th match for Dunfermline, there were chances in the opening minutes of the first half and in 64th minute as well both from deliveries across the face of goal. His first opportunity was driven wide at the near post and his second back across goal and beyond the far post. The 18 year old continued:-

"I should probably have done better with the first one, obviously I was unlucky with the second. I struck that well but watched it go wide of the post, I was pretty gutted about that. The first one hit the sidenetting but if I had hit it a wee bit better across the keeper it would have been a goal.

"From the start I felt we played well. We have taken a bit of stick recently about not performing as good as we should, obviously results would suggest that. Today I thought we were much better in the first half than we were in the second. We played well, we passed the ball well and you could see that they were beginning to tire a bit.

"We just weren't ruthless enough in front of goal and didn't get as many opportunities in the second half as we would have liked. Near the end they were putting a bit of pressure on us but we defended well and got the clean sheet which is the most important thing."

It is not easy against any team in this league especially when they include some experienced campaigners, Ryan added:-

"Upfront they had big boys like Templeman and Swankie is a decent wee player. They were hard to play against but we stuck to our task, defended well and got a well deserved point."

The League One table has tightened up at the bottom of the board and although Forfar could be caught by 9th placed East Fife, it is upwards that they are looking since they have to play both Arbroath and Ayr United at home, before travelling to Stranraer on the final day of the league season. Ryan:-

"Every team is still fighting for something - a play off place or avoiding relegation. Any team coming here we expect to give us a hard game and we know that we are in for it. It is up to us that our effort levels are as high as possible. It is up to us to achieve the three points."

One point from the match against Dick Campbell's Loons turned out to be sufficient to assure the second place finish but Ryan is hoping for a more positive outcome from the remaining three league fixtures against Ayr, Arbroath and Rangers:-

"I just hope we can be strong in the play offs. We have three games before them and if we could get a couple of wins out of the three with a couple of good performances then that would lead us into the play offs in good form. Hopefully the place would be high in confidence as well."

With Forfar embarking on a late challenge for a play off place Ryan is mindful of last season's play offs against them and the fact that Dunfermline have only taken five points out of a possible twelve from the Angus team:-

"We played them last year and struggled up there. They are a tough team but any team that we are going to get are going to be hard to play against and be up for it. Current form will not really matter going into the play offs.

"Every team is going to be battling to stay in the Championship or get promoted into it. The way it is looking with teams like Rangers and Hearts there means that it probably going to be a better league than the SPL next season. It will be great for the crowds so hopefully we will come through on top."
