Grainger confident results will come
Monday, 7th Apr 2014"We just didn't really create anything clear cut
Danny Grainger thought that Dunfermline dominated the game on Saturday. He discussed the match with the assembled media post match:-
"Airdrieonians defended really well, they were really well organised. Obviously Gary Bollan is a defender himself and knows how to get his teams organised. I know Craig Barr really well from my Gretna days - he is a centre half playing in the holding role for Airdrie. That shows that they are not going to concede many goals.
"We didn't really do ourselves much justice today showing how we can perform in the final third. There were a couple of mistakes at the other end and we have come away with a 2-0 defeat."
Danny hadn't had time to view the match stats but at one point Dunfermline were as high as 62% possession and ended up with an overall percentage possession at 56%. He predicted correctly that his side was well ahead on this aspect:-
"We dominated the ball and probably the possession stats will show that. We just didn't really create anything clear cut that we can say that we really should have had a goal from.
"Faissal had a shot that just flew past the post instead of nesting in the top corner. Things like that happen. We have worked hard as a team and the boys have got us in a good position, but towards the play offs we need to be comfortable going into them.
"If you look at everyone's form going towards the play offs there are a lot of teams that have gone on great runs. It is not just us, everyone is playing teams around the bottom that are battling for their lives.
"We have had a few suspensions and injuries in the last few weeks that have hampered us a bit but that said we have a big few weeks coming up now leading up to the play offs where we know that we have to start picking up the points."
Points have been hard to come by for Dunfermline who have now taken just four from the last 18 available. Danny accepts that it is now down to the business end if the season where teams that are at the foot of the table who fail to pick up points will get relegated.
"The teams at the top seem to have taken their feet off the gas and are getting punished for it. It just shows that it is not just Dunfermline that have dropped points against teams around the bottom, everyone is doing it. They are fighting for their lives."
Some would say that if there is to be a lapse in form let it be now and not when the play offs come along in May. Danny agreed but stressed:-
"We are very confident in the players that we have in the dressing room and their ability. They will all work hard and know if they keep doing what we are doing, things will turn in our favour and we will get the results that we need."
