Managers Post Dundee

Saturday, 11th Sep 2010

11/09/10: JM " It was a well fought and hard earned three points. It has been an excellent start to the season; that was the goal because last year we found ourselves playing catch up.

Jim McIntyre acknowledged that the win over Dundee earned Dunfermline "a great three points".

"I thought the players worked extremely hard. Really for the first fifteen minutes it was an eaksie peaksie game - we knew that it was going to be like that because there wasn't much between the teams. Then we got a penalty kick after their keeper had a great save, we react well from it and the second goal was quality - absolutely fantastic. It came from a fantastic move from our point of view - a great wee ball down the channel, a flick inside and a great bit of skill to put Bell through.

"I thought he was Man of the Match today, he was outstanding and it was a very composed finish. He won a lot of important second balls for us when we were having to fight and hang in there."

The Pars defence looked fairly solid:-

"The boys at the back were really good because they are awkward - Griffths is razor sharp and they have the big boy (Kuqi) who is 6'4" and is going to win his fair share. It is about covering each other and dropping off into the right areas. I thought they did that really well today."

The Manager was disappointed that Dundee got back into the game with a 51st minute header from Gary Harkins:-

"Obviously you are disappointed with any goal you lose, especially from a corner kick. We should have cleared it off the line but then there was a positive reaction. It was a mistake from Dundee's point of view but it was a good ball put into a dangerous area that they never dealt with. Pat Clarke was on hand to score against his old club; that's pleasing for him."

Asked if he felt that this might have been a match Dunfermline might have lost last season, Macca replied:-

"No, I don't think so. We are five games into the season and that's a different Dundee side to the one we played last year. We dominated Dundee in three games last year and only came away with four points. That's nothing to do with other than not taking your chances when the opportunity presents itself. Today we took our chances and we have our keeper to thank for a magnificent save at 2-1. We were fortunate as well that the referee ruled that it was a bye kick. It was a real top drawer save to keep us in the match.

"Goals change games; they are crucial points when there is not a lot between the teams. It was a well fought and hard earned three points. It has been an excellent start to the season; that was the goal because last year we found ourselves playing catch up. This year we have started well but it is about maintaining it, taking game by game and not getting carried away. Keeping our feet on the ground and keep doing the things that are getting us success - that starts with the graft that the boys are putting in."

Dundee manager Gordon Chisholm bemoaned the three goals that his side "gave away":-

"That was the difference. The first goal was a penalty, I am not denying that but what a ridiculous penalty. The boy (Bell) was going away from goal and he gets tripped. Second one; the midfield runner and then the third one was just like a comedy of errors. You have no chance coming to the likes of Dunfermline and doing that. You have got to keep it tight.

"I thought we were better in the second half and we got back into it at 2-1. I thought we had a chance but we go up the park and that happens at the back and you just have no chance. The three goals were really disappointing."
