Manager Post Arbroath
Saturday, 24th Jul 2010JM:- "I am pleased, the bottom line about cup competitions is to get your name in the next round. we are there and we deserve to be there."
Jim McIntyre was happy with the 1-0 victory over Arbroath:-
"It was a winning start and that is what we were after. I am pleased because these are always difficult games. We passed the ball well at times even though Arbroath had set themselves up to make it difficult for us.
"They were well organised and with only one up front we found it difficult to get through them at times. It is important when it is like that to be patient, keep passing the ball and wait on your opportunity. I felt we did that and we should have scored another couple of goals."
Only one goal in a comfortable win, the Manager felt that was nothing to concern him:-
"It is still early doors. Obviously we want to be taking our chances and must become more ruthless. We will and we will get there. Pat (Clarke) has only been here a week and a half; he should have scored with his backheeler and there were a few times when we hit them on the counter we should have made more of.
"Kirkie went around the keeper and hit the post, he was unlucky there. But I am pleased, the bottom line about cup competitions is to get your name in the next round. we are there and we deserve to be there."
The Manager agreed that his defence did what was necessary:-
"They were good today although they only had one striker to deal with. They were a lot tighter as a unit. The two centre backs I felt were quite dominant.
"Same again next week would be nice but you get no two games the same. We will need to make sure that we are right at it from the off again next Saturday because you have got to give these teams the respect you deserve."
