Dunfermline last faced Manchester United in 2007 in a testimonial match for Scott Thomson but only Norwegian Magnus Eikrem is likely to return this Saturday. Only two Dunfermline Athletic players are likely to have met him before. Calum Woods and Nick Phinn survive from the team that played that August evening. Speaking to the website, Calum recalled his encounters stretching back to his youth football at Liverpool:-
"I played against Man United youths all the way up since I was young. I also played a couple of reserve games against them; they were good games. The rivalry was still strong at every level as it was with Everton.
"A lot of boys have gone since the last time we met but I am looking forward to playing in it and getting fit for the season."
The addition of Alex Keddie to the squad gives Jim McIntyre four central defenders to pick from so it looks like Calum will be playing right back this season.
"We are hoping for promotion this season. We finished the season strongly so we have to take it up from there. There are good players here and the new boys will help us.
"We are all looking forward to Saturday and the opportunity to make up for the last game. We have got to put that behind us and move on from that. I know it is pre season but we have no excuses."
Although the 23 year old scored Dunfermline's first goal of the season at East Fife it was not one he was going to celebrate:-
"I didn't really feel anything from it because it was 4-1. We have a few good friendlies coming up and it would be a good time to put things right."
