Time will not wait for Bayne
Friday, 9th Jul 2010Graham Bayne:- " I did the first few days of pre season training but obviously the pounding and the high intensity was just too much."
Graham Bayne was totally gutted on Friday after he had time to digest the facts that he would not meet the Pars end of July target for fitness that would have meant an extension to his short contract. He told the website
"I have got to realise that it is not the end and pick it up again somewhere, at some point. It is just going to take its time and I just have to accept it.
"My injury is notoriously difficult to treat, every specialist that I have seen has said that. Sometimes it goes away in four weeks but sometimes it takes a couple of years. There is not one plan of action that you can follow that guarantees that it is going to get better. We have exhausted every avenue known on this injury; it is going to get better but unfortunately there is no quick fix.
"Time has defeated me. I thought I was clear of it after the surgery. Being in the summer doing the rehab was feeling really good; I did the first few days of pre season training but obviously the pounding and the high intensity was just too much."
Physio Gerry Docherty filled in some technical detail about Graham's injury:-
"We had exhausted all the conservative measures from Christmas with the rest, physio, injections. He had something called shockwave therapy to try and stimulate the tendon to heal. These all proved to be unsuccessful but the advice was to allow time for the tendon to heal after surgery. He was fantastic then for ten weeks, he followed the rehab, did the running without a problem but it was only when we stepped things up in pre season with the guys that he started to feel it.
"It was a recurrence of the original symptoms. The time has run out for Graham; it is a condition that is self limiting. Whether it is a matter of weeks or months I am sure that he will play football again. We wish him well for his recovery and the Manager has said that the door will always be open for him. From my point of view I would like to see him through this phase."
Graham has accepted that for the moment
"It is just a case of going out into the big bad world and finding myself a job. Hopefully when it does get better I can get back into full time football. I am never going to give up on trying to play football at some level but I will just have to wait and see how long this takes.
"I can still keep myself fit by swimming and going into the gym - maybe in a month I can maybe do cycling. There is no more treatment that I can get; time is going to be the healer."
