In April 2007 Dunfermline played Hibs three times and the Fifers won two and drew one. The last win was courtesy of the famous dinked penalty kick from the boot of Jim McIntyre in 88th minute of the Scottish Cup semi final at Hampden. History tells us that the already relegated Pars lost the Cup Final to Celtic but that doesn't really reveal just how close Dunfermline came to a third Scottish Cup win.
Sadly the Pars have failed to battle their way out of the First Division in any of their three attempts since and there have been no more competitive games against the Edinburgh side. Saturday is the first of three pre season friendlies against SPL opponents - Aberdeen (21st July) and Hearts (27th July) follow - and an opportunity to gauge their progress since last pre season's 4-0 home defeat at the hands of John Hughes men.
Dunfermline fans will have their first opportunity to see in action new signings goalkeeper Kyle Allison and central defender Alex Keddie.
Hibs have available new signing midfielder Edwin de Graf from NAC Breda ahead of their pre season that includes a trip to Dumfries on Tuesday 13th July to play Queen of the South and then a tour to Holland where they will play Heracles, NEC Nijmegen, Den Haag and Vitesse Arnhem.
Referee will be Stephen Finnie.
Greg Ross has gone to Iceland to play at Valur
Sol Bamba has been to the World Cup with the Ivory Coast
