Austin McCann explained how the first week of pre season training was coming along. Wednesday had been highlighted as the least enjoyable but the Pars captain managed to look forward to getting to full fitness and leading his team into a successful season. In an exclusive interview for the official website Austin said:-
"Like every other pre season it has been tough; the first ten days are really tough but it is just about getting us through it and getting us fit. It gives you a good base for the rest of the season; every player that misses pre season tells you that it is hard to catch up so it's important to keep yourself right from the start.
"We are doing pretty much the same as we did last pre season so we know tomorrow is the hardest session we have got. We have been talking about it and dreading it already. It is something that you just have to do - it's an assessment really."
Austin reported that the new players - Alex Keddie and Kyle Allison had settled in well:-
"The way Scotland is everybody knows everybody before you play. Big Alex Keddie knows Dowser (Andy Dowie) from his time at Ross County and he has integrated well with the boys. Young Kyle has fitted in well although it would have been better for him to have another goalkeeper to pal about with. But he is a local boy and he has mixed in well."
All the players are looking forward to the opening friendlies:-
"Hibs, Hearts, Man United - they are going to be good games so it is important now that we get the sessions done, get in as many minutes as you can in the pre season friendlies to get you right for the first game of the season."
On the day that it was announced that the first league game of the season will be all ticket, Austin agreed that it was going to be a tasty start:-
"It is a good one to open with - Falkirk away. It's a derby game and Dunfermline fans will be out in force. It is a really good game to start with and hopefully if we can get our preparations right in pre season, we can kick off with a win.
"It will be a tough league again - very much the same as last season with a lot of teams thinking that they can win promotion. With Falkirk coming down and Cowdenbeath coming up there are going to be plenty local derbies. It will be exciting for the fans and a season to look forward to."
