Macca on Friday
Friday, 30th Apr 2010"Airdrie have done well with a great run; they are the form team in the league and we know it will be difficult, a real battle.
Jim McIntyre is pleased that the last game of the season is one where the opposition have everything to play for and his own side has the incentive of finishing third:-
"It is a good game to be involved in. We want to finish as high as we can and it is all to play for ourselves, Ross County and Queen of the South. Both teams have something to play for - a lot of the times in the last game there is not really a lot to play for - so that will keep everybody on their toes.
"Airdrie are a difficult side for any team. They are well managed by Blackie and Boyle and they have some decent players. They have done well with a great run; they are the form team in the league and we know it will be difficult, a real battle. It will be a great atmosphere since they are expecting a good few of their fans to turn out. We are looking forward to it."
The Pars gaffer confirmed that his squad to face Airdrie United is the same as last week. When asked about how satisfied he was about the season just ending Macca gave his end of term assessment:-
"There has definitely been an improvement. We have improved our home form, the stats tell you that and I have been pleased with the way we try to play the game. The one thing against us has been the tendency to concede too many goals, especially at home. That has been disappointing and the negative for me. I mean as a team, not just the boys who play at the back. It is a team game and there have been times in games where we have needed to see the game out when we are under pressure. We have given away too many cheap cheap goals.
"At the start of the season we had a lot of individual mistakes that contributed in a big way to our poor start. We were actually playing well but not winning. As soon as the mistakes stopped we started picking up points; there will always be individual mistakes throughout a season but we seemed to have them week in week out for six or seven weeks. It was costing us.
"I think also that we have got to punish teams more. There were a lot of chances that we should have buried and that in themselves would take pressure off you when you are under pressure. You can see when we go and take the lead, the number of times we have gone on to win the game. It is a healthy start and it is crucial.
"There have been some really good performers this year, I have been really pleased with the midfield - we have scored a lot of goals from the midfield area. We have had to because it has been a hard season. Graham Bayne has been out since the beginning of December, Kirkie missed the last two months of the season so our recognised strikeforce has been out but nevertheless I will still be disappointed if we do not finish third."
The Manager pointed to his home form as being the factor that has spoiled the season:-
"You must concede half what you score, that gives you a very good home record. We have not done enough of that and although we have won more at home this season we are still giving away far too many goals. The aim is to improve on that next season."
Dunfermline will fulfil a Reserve League Cup fixture at Arbroath on Monday night by fielding a youth team.
