Calum Woods Post Morton
Sunday, 25th Apr 2010"I thought the ref had given a foul for one on me! I couldn't believe that he gave a penalty. The linesman gave it.
Calum Woods was deployed in the centre of the Dunfermline defence for the match against Morton. He talked exclusively to the website immediately after the game:-
"I have played at centre half a good few times last season and I have played there a couple of times this season. Wherever the Manager wants to play me, I will play but I enjoy playing at centre half as well."
Calum almost scored when up for a first half corner:-
"I got close to scoring at a corner. I just flicked it over the bar, I was unlucky because it was a great ball in from Willie (Gibson). Nick had a great finish before that. He moved off the players to be free at the back, it was a great header."
What everyone really wanted Calum to explain was just what caused Referee Steve Conroy to award Morton a penalty near the end of the first half:-
"I thought the ref had given a foul for one on me! I couldn't believe that he gave a penalty. The linesman gave it.
"It was great when Steven scored immediately at the other end. It was great, it makes you feel better."
That put Dunfermline into a fairly comfortable 3-1 interval lead but Calum said his team mates were well aware that Morton would come out fighting for the restart:-
"We always knew that they would come out strongly at us. They put quite a bit of pressure on us in the second half but big Chris (Smith) made a couple of saves as well.
The 4-1 scoreline was just what the Manager and team were looking for and Calum claims that Dunfermline will be trying hard to continue that in the final match of the season at New Broomfield Park;-
"It was a great result to finish at home, especially for the fans who have been watching all season. Airdrie will be up for next week's game but we'll be up for it as well because we want to finish the season as strong as we can."
