McCabe on Friday
Friday, 23rd Apr 201023/04/10:- "People say 'the league is finished' but as far as we are concerned we are working the boys just as hard and hopefully we can get six points over the last two games.
Assistant Manager Gerry McCabe spoke to the website ahead of the final home match of the season. He considered their opponents Morton to always be tough opponents. Nevertheless he was happy to reflect on the success already this season that have brought his team nine points out of nine:-
"We have beaten them three times this season so we'd like to make it a clean sweep and finish our last home game on a high. It would be good to give the fans something to shout about again.
"People say 'the league is finished' but as far as we are concerned we are working the boys just as hard and hopefully we can get six points over the last two games. We can then see where that takes us at the end of the season - that's all we can do."
Morton are sitting in eighth place but are urgently in search of points as Gerry observed:-
"They are still sitting on the fringes and will want to make themselves secure. They will come and make it difficult. Wee James Grady has had a hard job since he went in there and he knows what it is all about now. He is trying to stamp his own mark in the game but we will not be out to give him any favours. The only favours that you get are the ones you do yourself."
Steven McDougall will be missing with a fractured toe but Neil McGregor will be available. Graham Bayne went through an operation yesterday but it will be a few weeks before any assessment on the success of that can be made. Gerry described Baynee as a 'massive miss'.
"He has been great around about the place; he comes in and talks to all the boys before the games. He has been great support to the boys, it has just been unfortunate that we haven't had him on the park. We'd like him here next season and to be one of the main players for us again.
"For tomorrow we have Joe Cardle available again after coming through the reserve game."
Gerry confirmed that the players will return for pre season training on 24th June and that they are currently trying to fix up pre season friendlies.
"The SPL's programme starts two weeks after us but we are hoping to fit in a few games at the end of July."
Gerry McCabe will be at Arbroath on Tuesday for a Reserve League Cup game and that competition will have a semi final and possibly a final.
