Steven Bell post Ross County
Sunday, 4th Apr 2010"That was the biggest game of the season and that's the worst we have played all season."
Steven Bell was in little doubt how his side performed against Ross County on Sunday:-
"We were terrible from start to finish and gave ourselves far too much of a mountain to climb with the two goals we lost in the first half. It was just not good enough, the gaffer has told us that but we know that ourselves. We got overran big time."
Jim McIntyre felt the defeat was largely because his side had not played as a team but as three separate units, Steven agreed:-
"If you look at the games that we have lost this season that has been the case in all of them. Midfield was too far off the centre halves, midfield was too far off the strikers - it was just a bad day all round. I do not know why we are so inconsistent, I cannot put my finger on it."
Steven described his goal as an easy finish but the feel good feeling that might have brought was extinguished by the disappointment that defeat put an end to the title challenge. With the ink still drying on his new two year contract at Dunfermline he expressed the feeling of the dressing room:-
"We don't want to be playing First Division football next season. We did so well to get back into it but then to throw it away is gutting. It is horrible, we are disappointed in ourselves and each other. There are four games to go; if we have a bit of self respect and dignity then we will be lifted for those games. There is still a lot to play for, some of these boys have contracts to play for. If we down tools just now, you shouldn't be playing football. We will go out and try and win the next four games and try and improve on last season.
"I was looking forward to this season, obviously for me it has been much better than last but our inconsistency has cost us. That's three out of the last four games we have lost yet we beat Dundee on Tuesday night. We were excellent on Tuesday night so I don't know how we can go from playing so well as a unit to how we played against Ross County, it is just not good enough."
"We want to get promoted because we have a cracking team; we are all around the same age and get on well. There have been a handful of games where we have been outstanding but there have been games where there have been five or six of us off the boil. I don't think I could pick one player who was good on Saturday. That was the biggest game of the season and that's the worst we have played all season."
