Managers Post QOS
Saturday, 27th Mar 201027/03/10: JM - "It puts a massive dent on our challenge. We have played the most games so we had to win today.
Jim McIntyre was unhappy his side had not done more at Dumfries:-
"We probably had the better of the first half and it was a bit of deja vu like Tuesday night. You have to be ruthless when chances come your way, we never took them and lost two goals to setpieces which is poor. The setpiece came in and then it was a rebound I think they scored from - that is men just not doing their jobs.
"We had a lot of the play but when we were breaking on them I just feel that we were not making enough of them. It was too pedestrian at times in terms of breaking at pace which isn't like us I have got to say. Normally we are quite good at that but we didn't have our shooting boots on today and it has come back to haunt us.
"I was more disappointed with our second half, we went out to a whimper. We just had no threat whatsoever and we seemed to accept things and that was the most galling thing about the performance.
"It puts a massive dent on our challenge. We have played the most games so we had to win today. All the teams with games in hand will be looking upwards. We will keep fighting, keep battling away and see where that takes us. I think effectively it is going to be very difficult now for us but we will just have to try and get a win on Tuesday."
Jim McIntyre was pleased with the performance of 20 year old goalkeeper Greg Paterson in just his second league start:-
"I thought his handling was good but he didn't have one save to make. When you have lost 2-0 and the keeper has not had a save to make it is disappointing but I thought he did exceptionally well."
The Manager felt that the red card shown to Joe Cardle was a "stonewaller" red card and warned his player that his stupidity would cost him:-
"People kick each other, that's what happens on a football park, there are tackles made and you just have to deal with it - get up and get on with it, dust yourself down. He has cost us and cost his team; he has let himself down, his team down and it will cost him that's for sure. When they don't deserve red cards then they don't get punished but when they do stupid things like that you are going to get hammered in the pocket."
Queen of the South's new manager Kenny Brannigan commented:-
"That was a really good win for us considering the circumstances, the boys were really up for it. They reacted well to the challenge as they were still a bit shell-shocked at what happened this week.
"It was never pretty but we did what we needed to do and that was to get three points. David Hutton had some brilliant saves but every single player battled well. We needed that second goal to ensure a victory and we deserved it.
"There's never any easy matches in this league, we've got to fight for every single point. However, after the result at Dundee on Tuesday night it was another step in the right direction".
