It is with sadness that Dunfermline Athletic Football Club have learned of the death of former Pars captain Bobby Smith. Bobby lost his fight against illness on Monday 22nd February at the age of 56.
Bobby was born in Dalkeith and played youth football at Musselburgh Windsor. A left back he went on to join Hibs and then Leicester City before joining Dunfermline from Hibs in September 1987.
Bobby captained the Pars side that went on to win the First Division championship under Jim Leishman in 1989. After making 66 appearances during his successful time with the Pars, he left at the end of that title winning season to go to Partick Thistle. Berwick Rangers became another of his clubs before becoming a taxi driver and then owner of Smith's Bar in Dalkeith.
Of the sad loss, Jim Leishman said:
"Bobby Smith was a true professional and his death at this relatively early age is very sad."
Everyone at Dunfermline extend their condolences to Bobby's family.
