Managers Post Stenhousemuir
Wednesday, 27th Jan 201026/01/10: JM - "The players were well warned that there are no two games the same and we knew Stenhousemuir would not be as poor as they were in the first game."
Jim McIntyre was relieved to come through the Active Nation Scottish Cup replay at Ochilview on Tuesday night:-
"Stenny were excellent and knocked us right out of our stride. It was a really difficult night and I thought that it was going to go to penalties, I couldn't see us scoring but we did. We got there and we are over the line and that's what we came for."
Stenhousemuir made Dunfermline fight for their place in the next round:-
"The players were well warned that there are no two games the same and we knew Stenhousemuir would not be as poor as they were in the first game. They showed tonight what difficult opponents they can be.
"I have got to say that we were really poor but I am not taking anything away from Stenny I thought they were excellent."
The Manager was happy to avoid a penalty shoot out.
"You just take your luck when it comes to penalties. It depends who has got the bottle so we were delighted to get the goal."
Asked about reports that there had been a mistake in the teamsheet for this evening's game Macca replied:-
"We had a club official here tonight to do the teamsheet, we just passed on the numbers. I know nothing about it."
The gaffer couldn't enlighten the media as to why Stenhousemuir got a penalty that took them back into the game midway through the second half.
"It was hard to see from where we were. The boys thought it was soft, that's for sure. I think the referee said that it was for pulling but he couldn't give a number to who was actually doing the pulling. It was disappointing but we are very relieved to be going into the next round.
"Celtic will be a game that they will all be desperate to play in. It is a big game to test ourselves against the best players."
Stenhousemuir boss, John Coughlin was disappointed to lose out to what he called a 'really soft goal':-
"When it went to extra time I thought 'we are going to struggle' but we kept working away and I feel that we were really unfortunate on the night. The disappointment was there for everyone to see. We came close to creating a real shock, we rattled Dunfermline. They will know that they have been in a game and earned their right to be in the next round of the cup."
