Neil McGregor Post Inverness
Saturday, 19th Dec 2009"Happy with a clean sheet but not with failing to pick up the three points which ideally we would have liked.
Neil McGregor was happy with the defensive performance against Inverness Caley Thistle but lamented the conditions:-
"It was a horrible day for a game but I thought we did well at the back keeping a clean sheet. The conditions made it difficult, if the park had been like normal I'm sure we could have played better football. Going forward we couldn't create anything in the final third. The Manager told us not to make mistakes, just rely on them making mistakes.
"The first half was pretty bad because there was a lot of snow still lying on the park and in the second half it was just really heavy as the snow melted and the park got boggy."
It was a little surprising that Neil managed to enjoy playing football in such circumstances:-
"Before the game when were passing the ball about I thought the ball was gathering a bit of snow after that it was OK. I have not really played in anything quite as bad as that before. In the first five minutes I got knocked over and I was soaking and freezing for the rest of the game. Apart from that it was a good game to play in."
The back four appeared to have no problem adapting to a new keeper behind them. Neil had every confidence in league debut boy Greg Paterson:- "We train with him everyday so it was no different, just normal."
Greg certainly had Neil to thank for some crucial tackles that prevented Inverness getting in for shooting opportunities that might have been hard to stop. He played that down modestly:- "I guess I was in the right place at the right time."
The Pars centre back concluded that it was a success to keep Terry Butcher's men out:-
"Happy with a clean sheet but not with failing to pick up the three points which ideally we would have liked. We just have to get on with it next week.
"Dundee are stretching away again after winning today. We are disappointed coming away from games with just one point when we have been in positions to take the three points. Today we drew 0-0 but last week we were disappointed not to get the three points after being 3-2 up going into the last ten minutes."
