Andy Kirk Post Ross County

"We are disappointed to drop the two points after being in the lead and at home we have to look to go and finish the game off.

Andy Kirk marked his return to the Dunfermline starting line up on Saturday for the first game in four matches by scoring two goals. Those were his first goals since scoring at Inverness on 17th October.

"We made a few mistakes. At the first goal Burkie made some bad judgement trying a pass back that gifted the first goal. It was a good game with loads of chances - I think I had two cleared off the line and probably missed the easiest chance I had.

"I took a touch and knew that the defender was coming in behind me so tried to place it in the corner. The keeper said to me afterwards that when he dived it actually hit him on the face but it is a chance that by my standards, I should be putting away. That would have put us 4-2 up and maybe would have killed the game.

"We are disappointed to drop the two points after being in the lead and at home we have to look to go and finish the game off. The boys second goal was a fair strike and third was as well. We were looking for a free kick in the middle of the park when the ball broke but we have to play to the whistle but the boy's strike was a wonder goal.

"It is important to win since we are the home team; we are going to attack when we are at home but they were a good side and like to pass the ball like we do. It showed that in some nice patterns of play, as we did. Three good goals on each side - from a neutral perspective it was a good game but we are disappointed that we didn't go on and finish the game off."

Andy did not take much comfort from the fact that he scored two goals claiming that goalscoring was just his job.

"I am out there to try to score goals; that is what they brought me here for. If you look at my starts to goals ratio it is always pretty good. It is good for confidence and I 'd like to get on that wee run again of hitting the net on a regular basis."

Andy was unaware that it had been seven weeks since being on the scoresheet:-

"I don't take too much notice of it, I just go out at and in every game that I play I just try to get in positions where I can score. I am just glad to see two hit the net on Saturday but I am really disappointed that I didn't score the third one."

Ironically it was international duty with Northern Ireland that had cost Andy his starting place in the Dunfermline team. A call up into Nigel Worthington's squad meant that he missed Dunfermline's trip to play Ross County in October while he won his ninth cap against Czech Republic. Then he came off the bench to score in the Pars next game and started the next three before the Pars 3-1 won against Partick Thistle at East End Park while Andy was away representing his country against Serbia

Steven McDougall started just his third Pars match in the game against Partick and scored into the bargain. When Andy was available again for the away matches at Dumfries and Ayr he found himself on the subs bench but an ankle injury to Graham Bayne made way for the Fifers top goalscorer to kick off against Ross County.

"It was unfortunate that our league doesn't stop when there are international games and I had to go away with Northern Ireland. The team beat Partick Thistle 3-1 and 'Dougall did well and scored. He deserved to stay in the team, it is one of those things in football - you just have to wait your time to get your place back again."

Graham Bayne scored three in the last five games but Andy hopes he has done enough to secure a starting place for himself in next Saturday's game against Inverness Caley Thistle:-

"At the end of the day it is up to the manager so we'll just have to wait and see."
