Managers Post QOS

Tuesday, 1st Dec 2009

01/12/09: They put us under a lot of pressure in the second half and we rode our luck at times, but every team needs that.

Jim McIntyre was a happy Pars Manager after his side had extended their unbeaten run to eight games:-

"It is a great result because this is a really tough place to come. We ground out a result although I did not think we played as well as we had been playing. We started sloppily - maybe having the break just stopped that wee bit of fluency in our play.

"Credit to them, they fought back and getting the two goals was great. It was a good spin from McDougall for the penalty. The first goal was just a scramble. There were good battling qualities in there. We went in two - one up. They put us under a lot of pressure in the second half and we rode our luck at times, but every team needs that.

The Dunfermline Manager was pleased with the way his defence handled all the oppositions balls into the box.

"Derek Holmes is a really difficult player to play against, big Homer wins his fair share and it's the second ball that you have to watch and worry about as well. You have to make sure that players are covering round about him. They caused us a few problems but in the main I thought our defenders were excellent. They showed some great battling qualities."

Dunfermline got the break when referee Craig Thomson awarded them a 29th minute penalty.

"It was hard to see from where we were but I am just glad to see it go our way since we have had plenty go against us. It was difficult to call from where I was."

Macca's team did well to come back from a goal down, especially on such a soggy playing surface that was cutting up during the game.

"In some places the ball would bounce, in others it wouldn't. It was dying for the players and at times difficult to control the ball. Both teams gave their lot and tried to play but there wasn't a great deal of quality in the game. It was more a battle but we are just delighted to come away with the points."

"It is another good result, it keeps the run going and that is all we are caring about. We take it game by game and we know its the kind of league where we can't get complacent. We have to approach every game in the same manner and we will need to do the same again when we go down to Ayr United. Although their results have not been great, by the reports we have had they have been playing well but we just need to do what we have been doing and worry about ourselves."

The performance of his on loan goalkeeper, Chris Smith was another positive for Jim McIntyre:-

"He took a bang and got a cut on his ear but he is fine. He is a keeper. It was difficult for him coming in, he only met the boys on the bus. We had to get somebody in because we lost Greg Fleming with a fractured finger and we secured Chris. Obviously he has been out with a long term injury and has only played three bounce games. He will get better and better but I was pleased with his performance."

Queen of the South Manager, Gordon Chisholm thought that his side deserved something out of the game.

"After we scored the goal we had a ten minute spell where we sat deep and invited them on. Apart from that we started the game great, we started the second half strong and played some great stuff in the second half. We did really well and I cannot ask the players for anymore."

"I thought for over an hour we were the better team, ten minutes cost us the game tonight when we allowed them into the game. We gave a slack goal away and it was a stupid penalty - the boy should never have dived in."

"I felt tonight that we deserved to get something out of the game."
