Steven Bell Post Partick
Saturday, 14th Nov 2009"We said at half time that we had started the game well and finished the first half well but the bit in between wasn't good enough.
Steven Bell considered the Pars third 3-1 win in the last four home games as another massive result:-
"They are all big games now and we are reaching the time of the season where the pitches and weather aren't that great so it is just a matter of digging out results. We did that today because I thought they were the better team in the second half
"We said at half time that we had started the game well and finished the first half well but the bit in between wasn't good enough. They got the goal right at the start of the second half which wasn't great and put us on the back foot but we killed the game off in the 90th minute.
"The first goal came from a great ball in from Willie and I just got away from my marker to head it towards the goal. I think it hit a defender but obviously Steven was there to put it in. I think he scuffed it in.
"Willie Gibson had a great finish for the second goal. It was just a long ball from them that big Neilly headed back up the park, Willie still had a lot to do but he nipped in and lobbed the goalie."
Despite being 2-0 at half time Steven felt that his team hadn't played their best:-
"Recently we have been on top of teams for 60 or 70 minutes but we never really got going after going two up. We said that the next goal was crucial; if we got that next goal it would kill it off, if they got the next goal it would give them something to go and build on. Partick got it and the second half was not that pretty.
"Last season we would have lost or drawn that game so it shows you the character we have as a team just now. Results went for us - Dundee drew, Raith got beat and Ross County drew."
Steven was delighted with the Pars unbeaten run and claimed that it was really building confidence in his team mates:-
"We are all the same age and we all get on. The character is brilliant but if you feel pressure of seven games unbeaten you are in the wrong job, if anything you should be building on it."
The job certainly appears to fit better for the 24 year old midfielder this season. He clearly feels that being played in his preferred position is helping his game:-
"Last season I was getting played out of position and missed the pre season. I don't know if people realise how important that is. You are playing catch up for a lot of the time. Right wing is not my position and I feel more comfortable in midfield. I am a big boy and can get myself about. I am playing with good players round about me, natural wingers either side of me and Burky. We have been told just to get the ball to them then get in the box.
"Every game is big now, if we beat Queen of the South in the game coming up we go three points behind them. We need to keep going and it is important not to get beat."
At Dunfermline the players want to win every game and they are enjoying the good times at the moment. You have to go back to 1999 to see an unbeaten run of more than seven games but Steven says that when Monday comes around it will just be back to work as normal.
"The boys have a bit of banter about it but the Saturday comes around so fast." Feet are firmly on the ground however as Steven warned "There are still a lot of teams in it, it is a really tight league. Airdrie, Ayr and Morton have drifted out a little but they are good teams who could still come back into it."
