Kirk gets Northern Ireland call
Monday, 2nd Nov 2009Andy Kirk receives another international call to face Serbia.
After his recent call up to the Northern Ireland squad by manager Nigel Worthington for the World Cup Qualifier, Andy Kirk has be called up for the friendly against Serbia on Saturday 14th November. The game will take place at Windsor Park, Belfast. Kick off time has yet to be confirmed.
Everyone at Dunfermline Athletic would like to congratulate Andy on his call up but are naturally sorry that he will be unavailable for Dunfermline's home match v Partick thistle.
Andy missed the Dunfermline match at Dingwall last month through being on International duty with Northern Ireland. He made a late appearance in the Wednesday night match against the Czech Republic and that came between two matches in which he scored important goals for his Club.
Speaking at Inverness on his return, Andy looked back on his week with Nigel Worthington's squad:-
"It was great to get the call and to be back involved with the boys.I know a lot of them from previous trips but it has been three years since I have been involved.I went away and worked hard and gave a good account of myself. I got rewarded with the last 12 minutes of the game so fingers crossed I have done enough and shown a good attitude in Nigel's eyes to involve me in the next squad.
"At the end of the day your Club form is the thing that gets you picked.I just want to keep scoring goals for Dunfermline, keep playing well and stay fit."
The number of International Caps credited to Andy was checked with him while he was in the Czech Republic. Some confusion existed over just how many he had won with the Irish FA mistakenly counting occasions when he was not in the squad. All parties are now agreed that Andy's match in Prague was his ninth International game.
