Sunday, 18th Oct 2009"I am a top goalscorer at the Club, that's what I do best, score goals and I was very disappointed not to be playing today.
For the second week running Andy Kirk came off the bench to score an important goal for his club.He talked exclusively to the website after the game at Inverness and it was in a distinctly disappointed tone given the result:-
"We didn't pass the ball particularly well today and I thought when we changed it to having the two up front we looked more threatening. Obviously, I was delighted to come on and get the goal.
"I am a top goalscorer at the Club, that's what I do best, score goals and I was very disappointed not to be playing today. There are certain things you have to deal with in football but I came on and got the equaliser and played ok as well."
The 69th minute goal came from a quickly taken corner but not anything that had been rehearsed:-
"These things happen off the cuff sometimes.I just got in a position and I thought if the ball comes short then I am in a good position to get a head on it. At the end of the day I got a wee bit luck as well. The ball was bending away from me and I managed to get a head on it.It sort of hit my shoulder at the same time and I looked up to see it going in the top corner. You need to take these bits of luck when they come along.
"I wouldn't say it was a typical Andy Kirk goal but I am always in or thereabouts. You need a wee bit of luck because other weeks you might head them cleanly and hit the bar and come back out. Obviously I was delighted to see it hit the net.It is another point which I felt we deserved to be fair."
Andy missed the Dunfermline match at Dingwall in midweek through being on International duty with Northern Ireland. He made a late appearance in Wednesday nights match against the Czech Republic and that came between two matches in which he scored important goals for his Club.
Andy looked back on his week with Nigel Worthington's squad:-
"It was great to get the call and to be back involved with the boys.I know a lot of them from previous trips but it has been three years since I have been involved.I went away and worked hard and gave a good account of myself. I got rewarded with the last 12 minutes of the game so fingers crossed I have done enough and shown a good attitude in Nigel's eyes to involve me in the next squad.
"At the end of the day your Club form is the thing that gets you picked.I just want to keep scoring goals for Dunfermline, keep playing well and stay fit."
The number of International Caps credited to Andy was checked with him while he was in the Czech Republic. Some confusion existed over just how many he had won with the Irish FA mistakenly counting occasions when he was not in the squad. All parties are now agreed that Andy's match in Prague was his ninth International game.
