Joe Cardle Post Raith

Saturday, 29th Aug 2009

"I thought it was a goal when I whipped the corner in, I saw it - the linesman was standing right next to me but not given it and then they went right up and scored straight from that.

Joe Cardle v Craig Wilson

Joe Cardle felt that the way this game panned out was a bit of a nightmare:-

"We knew at the start of the game that it was going to be a battle. I thought in the 3-1 game on Wednesday that we played some great football at times but we knew that they would come at us and not give us any time at all on the ball. That's what happened really.

"They went up and scored when I thought we were on top in the first half. The sending off just killed us. When we came out in the second half we were on top again for the first half hour. I thought it was a goal when I whipped the corner in, I saw it - the linesman was standing right next to me but not given it and then they went right up and scored straight from that.

"Bayne headed it and the keeper just pulled it out of the net, it was in the goal and I can't believe the linesman who was next to me has not given it."

Dunfermline v Raith Rovers

Joe was not near the incident where Willie Gibson was sent off although he quickly appeared from the other side of the pitch.

"One of the boys said to me that there was an elbow used by Willie but he said that he had not done anything. It was a weird sending off, he got the yellow and then the red. We just didn't know what was going on really. I don't know what happened.

The second half display from the Pars was certainly full of spirit with Joe being asked to play a different role:-

"I had to go into midfield and help out there in a three man midfield. We were on top and I thought if we could get a goal then we could come back and beat them but the second goal killed the game.

"It wasn't a 2-0 game, we were all over them. We are gutted and not happy at all. We don't have a game next weekend with the international break so it has kind of killed us really.

"We wanted another win so we could have two weeks without a match at the top of the league. You want to be flying at the top of the league but we have just got to keep working on the training pitch during these two weeks and take the three points from the next game."

Joe Cardle v Raith Rovers

With a crowd of more than 6000 for the Fife Derby and Joe believed that the home support spurred the Pars on:-

"The atmosphere was brilliant, the fans were fantastic again. Just like on Wednesday when the atmosphere was tremendous all we can ask for is for the fans to get behind the team and they helped us out especially in the second half.

"Dundee are the big boys in the league, that is going to be a big game and they drew with Airdrie so they don't seem to be getting the wins either. It is a funny league iut that is the next big game and we have to train hard for it."
