Dunfermline welcome Kenny Black`s Airdrie United side to East End Park on Saturday. Somewhat of a surprise to both but with Livingston relegated to the Third Division, for the second successive season the Lanarkshire club have had their own relegation reversed because of happenings off the park. After losing out on promotion in the play offs at the end of last season to Ayr, Airdrie United were preparing for life in the Second Division. Last year it was the demise of Gretna that made room for them to avoid the drop and this year it is the Almondvale club who have made way for Airdrie United to be re-instated to the First Division.

Exactly a year ago on 23rd August the sides played out a 0-0 draw at East End Park but in November last year Dunfermline recorded a fine 3-1 win at New Broomfield. With a 1-1 draw the Pars failed to beat Airdrie in the January fixture at home and the return in Lanarkshire in April had a similar score line. There was a happier outcome in February`s Homecoming Scottish Cup tie with Graham Bayne`s 73rd minute strike earning his team a 2-1 win at Airdrie.
The only other previous meetings have been the 4-3 defeat at East End Park in the 2005-2006 Scottish Cup in and the 2-0 Challenge Cup win in Lanarkshire last season.

So far in this season`s league Airdrie have drawn one and lost one. After the disappointment of Tuesday night and the opening league fixture at East End Park, Dunfermline will want to record a victory for their home fans. As we keep being reminded, there are no easy matches in the First Division and on last season`s form matches between Dunfermline and Airdrie United certainly prove that. Both sides faced Queen of the South last time out; Airdrie drew at home, Dunfermline lost at home but Saturday is a different day and hopefully a different result for the Pars.
