Joe Cardle Post Morton
Saturday, 15th Aug 2009" I saw the keeper on one side of the goal so I whipped in as far into the corner as I could. It went in and I think it came off the crossbar in the end.
Joe Cardle made his competitive debut for the Pars at Greenock on Saturday coming on as a 59th minute substitute for Willie Gibson and scoring 20 minutes later. The former Airdrie United player gave these comments after the match:-
"I came on off the bench and when the ball came out to me I just put it on my right and hoped for the best. I saw the keeper on one side of the goal so I whipped in as far into the corner as I could. It went in and I think it came off the crossbar in the end. I am just happy with the result more than the goal to be honest, I think 2-0 here is a great result.
"It was my first goal for Dunfermline and I am getting a little bit of banter from the boys for going and celebrating with the fans. The boys were trying to get hold of me but I am happy because my last goal was for Airdrie against Cove Rangers in the Scottish Cup. That was a long time ago. I got a goal in pre-season but that is not the same as my first league goal for Dunfermline."
Joe only scored three times at Airdrie last season but the new signing was happy to warn that his goals tend to be of special quality:-
"More than often they are decent goals. It was one of the best ones of my professional career. I have scored a few like that in the reserves and youth team football at Port Vale but in first team football that has to be up there really."
Last Saturday as his team mates took on Inverness Caley Thistle Joe served out a one match suspension that hung over him from his Airdrie days:-
"I didn't expect to be on the bench today because I was suspended last week and I have been struggling with an injury to my left ankle. I only started training this week to get back into it properly so when he put me on for the last half hour I was happy just to get on the pitch and get minutes under my belt.
"It is a massive three points for us, it is always a hard place to come and we had to battle in this game to get the three points. Every time that I have been here with Airdrie and Clyde it has been like that. You are playing against a physical side and we just had to grind it out. I am just happy that I got the goal that secured the three points.
"We have got Airdrie next week, hopefully I can get a run out in that because I am looking forward to that."
