Simon the supporter
Monday, 3rd Aug 2009"I just got the injury at the wrong time and these things can take a while to heal and obviously mine is one of those."
Simon Wiles has enjoyed himself at Dunfermline and is bitterly disappointed that his contract will not be renewed when it runs out at the end of this month. Unfortunately for him he has turned into one of the Pars best supporters. He enjoyed the Homecoming Scottish Cup Quarter Final victory at Aberdeen and he was at Dumbarton on Saturday to watch the Pars 5-0 win. He would much rather have been part of it all but he has been sidelined since the beginning of November and has not fully recovered from surgery. Standing in the shadow of Dumbarton Rock he told the website:-
"I was devastated, it's just my knee- it is a nightmare now. There is a little bit of swelling here and there and I am just gutted.
"I take each day as it comes. Some mornings I wake up and there is hardly any swelling in my knee but the following day it's there. I have been doing some running that loosens it up a bit but I wake up in the morning and it is a little bit puffy. You can't really do anything with a swollen knee, it is frustrating."
Simon was not sure how far he is away from fitness and he was not surprised that time ran out on him:-
"I am going to stay here and hope that Gerry Docherty can get something sorted with my knee. If I can get to the stage of training sessions I can at least leave fit instead of leaving in limbo.
"I have not really got back into training and I knew in my head I knew what could be happening."
Wiles was injured in the same game as Kevin Harper at Airdrie. Had that not happened to him then he could possibly have earned a starting place and given the Manager's obvious desire to play with wingers his future might well have been different. The 24 year old concedes:-
"I just got the injury at the wrong time and these things can take a while to heal and obviously mine is one of those."
