Andy Kirk Post Arbroath
Monday, 27th Jul 2009"The winning mentality is the thing that we have to breed especially with our home form being so bad last season.
Andy Kirk described his first competitive goal of the 2009-10 season - a 49th minute strike against Arbroath:-
"I came short for Greg Ross and he played the ball in for me. I managed to get a toe on it and played a one two. The ball sat up for me, I thought I'd try to find the far corner and it went in for me so I am delighted."
That was his starter to try and better last year's total of 17 - 2 in the Co-operative Insurance Cup and 15 in the league.
"It is what my game is all about, I score goals wherever I've been and my aim is to score as many goals as I can again this season. I work hard at my game during the week but it is possibly the best part of it. It helps with the Manager being a striker himself.
"Hopefully it can be a good season for us and myself and Graham (Bayne) will get a few goals.
"2-0 is always a difficult scoreline to try and hold on to. At the time we were cruising - a couple of mistakes and Arbroath get a goal and a lift. They actually played quite well, got in about us and made in difficult for us."
Andy was in no doubt that the Alba Challenge Cup was one that Dunfermline want to win:-
"It is a cup game and people might look at it as a small cup to play in but in every game we play, we go out with the mentality to win whether it is a league game, cup game or even pre season friendly. The winning mentality is the thing that we have to breed especially with our home form being so bad last season. It was important that we got off to a win today."
