Congratulations to Nick Phinn who has been invited to join the Scotland U21s training camp from 9th to 11th August based at Dunblane. The training takes place at the facilities at Stirling University, Nick revealed his feelings to the website:-
"I am happy to be in involved in another training camp. It will be good to go and meet up with the boys again. I have not seen who is involved and who is not, there will possibly be a few new faces."
There has been little time this season for the Scotland U21 coach, Billy Stark to assess players and Nick speculated:-
"Pre season it is maybe hard so he might just go with boys he knows from the past. He has told me that if I continued doing what I was doing he would not overlook me. Hopefully that is the case and I can go and maybe impress him this time."
The carrot for Nick is another trip to Austria. Although Dunfermline didn't take him back there this pre season, the Scotland U21s are due there to play their Austrian counterparts on Saturday 5th September in Bundesstadion, Sudstadt, Maria Enzersdor.
Following that the other fixtures in their European Championship group sees them play in Azerbaijan and Belarus. In the short term it possibly involves more local opposition.
"The last time we played Dundee and St Johnstone but the First Division will have kicked off the day before so you don't know if they would want to be involved."
Nick scored a goal during one of those games last time around and everyone at Dunfermline Athletic wishes the 20 year midfielder good luck at the trials.
Calum Woods and Nick Phinn received recognition at the end of season
2008-09 as Player of the Year and Runner Up Player of the Year.
