Manager on Friday
Friday, 24th Jul 200924/07/09: "It is our first competitive game, a home game and we want to start well with a win."
Ahead of the Challenge Cup match against Arbroath, Jim McIntyre gave a run down on his injury situation:-
"Obviously Andy Dow is out. Calum Woods has stitches on his eye so he is out; it is too risky to take a chance on him. Austin McCann is fine but Scott Muirhead phoned in sick. We will have to wait and see how he is. Willie Gibson is alright."
The Pars boss is looking forward to the Arbroath tie:-
"It is our first competitive game and one that we want to win. It is another game in the build up to the league as well. It's a home game and we want to start well with a win."
After scoring seven goals on Tuesday at East Fife, McIntyre's men will be desperate to turn on the style for the home fans:-
"Tuesday's performance was excellent, we were ruthless when we got the chances. Some of our football was fantastic and I have said to the players that I want them to play more from the back but only if it is on. It is up to the players on the field to know when it is on. I can't step on the park and say 'no I don't want you to get into there'.
"They are told on the training park what areas to get it in. We don't want the goalkeeper throwing it to the full back when there is a man up his back and likewise with a centre back.
"It is important with the type of player that we have here, that we try and continue playing the way we have been playing."
Macca's counterpart at Arbroath, John McGlashan has said:-
"The match will allow us to test ourselves against a full-time team at a good ground on a lovely pitch. "Because it is our first competitive game this season I will be telling the players to go for it but not to be nervous. They should just relax and enjoy the occasion.
"Few people will expect us to come away from the match with a result after they beat East Fife 7-1 on Tuesday night but no two games are ever the same and, hopefully, we can progress to the next round of the cup."
Jim McIntyre acknowledges that the Angus underdogs will no doubt raise their game when they come to East End Park:-
"He is playing against a bigger opposition and he will be looking for a scalp. Scott McBride was there last year and we know they are a strong side. They will come right at you but if we play how we can play we will win the battle. The players have been told that and it is all about getting the ball down and playing."
Promising to give a good account of themselves John McGlashan watched the match at Methil on Tuesday but he was impressed with the Dunfermline team especially former Lichtie, striker Graham Bayne:-
"I know Graham from his time at Dundee and he played really well on Tuesday and scored three goals so I know he will be a handful for the players. Joe Cardle is another exciting young wide player who Dunfermline signed from Airdrie and we will also have to be careful that we don't give him too much room."
