DAFC are delighted to announce the signing of former Gretna goalkeeper Greg Fleming on a season long loan deal from Oldham Athletic FC, subject to international clearance.
Greg, whose brother Alan plays in goals for Kelty Hearts, joins from Oldham Athletic FC whom he joined after being released from Gretna when they hit financial difficulties in 2008. Oldham were quick to react signing the Scotland Under 21s squad member on a three year deal as he was in high demand from several Championship and League One sides. Greg was born in Dunfermline, and returns to live in the town after moving to play for Gretna.
Fleming started his career with Livingston, but he did not make a first team appearance. He signed for Gretna in the summer of 2005. Fleming started to become a first team regular during Gretna's season in the SPL. During October 2007, Fleming's contract was extended by Gretna and he was selected by the Scotland Under-21 side.
Fleming is a product of the Livingston Youth System but didn't make a first-team appearance prior to joining Gretna in summer 2005.
He developed into a first-team regular during Gretna's 2007/08 season in the Scottish Premier League, winning rave reviews for some solid displays in a struggling team. But the Raydale Park side's financial problems led them to release all players at the end of the season, paving the way for Fleming's move south.
Rated as one of Scotland's best young keepers, the former Scotland U21 international made his debut for Oldham in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie against Morecambe. He followed that up with a first League start against Peterborough in December 2008 following an injury to regular number one Mark Crossley.
