Wiles delighted at chance
Tuesday, 9th Jun 2009Simon Wiles aims to crack on from the start and earn himself a longer contract after being given three months to prove his fitness.
Simon Wiles has this week signed a contract extension to 28th August 2009. The short term contract will give the 24 year old midfielder the opportunity to prove that he has recovered from the micro fracture to his right thigh bone that kept him out from the start of November last year.
Simon told the website:- "I am absolutely delighted. Hopefully I can get a good pre season under my belt and crack on from the start. I am in all close season with physio Gerry Docherty, building up all my muscles to be back fit for pre season. I would hope to get a couple of runs out before the start of the season."
Wiles joined Dunfermline in August 2008 on a one year deal but the injury incurred at Airdrie halted his career in Scotland. Ironically he had come on as sub for Kevin Harper whose injury in the same match led to him starting only three more matches for the Pars and would have created an opening for Wiles to show the Pars fans his real worth. Now working his way back after surgery at Ross Hall and several months on crutches, he claims that he just wants to get his football back on track:-
"The injury has been frustrating because at the time I incurred it I was just getting myself playing, back involved and it was a bit of a blow. I would like to bring more goals to the club at the start of the new season.
"The three months gives me more than enough time to prove that my knee is fine and that I am back fit. I want to earn a longer contract.
Simon whose preference is to play wide right, is a product of the Blackpool Centre of Excellence and during his time both there played under former Scotland captain, Colin Hendrie and while out on loan at Maccesfield Town, under England internationalist Paul Ince and the ex Man City player, Ian Brightwell.
Jim McIntyre gave him two starts last season and came on off the bench on ten occasions. His one and only goal for Dunfermline Athletic was in the 2-0 win over SPL outfit, St Mirren in the Co-operative Insurance Cup.
