Manager Post Clyde
Saturday, 9th May 200909/05/09:- "Overall it was a poor game; the conditions were very tricky but there wasn't a lot of quality in the game."
Jim McIntyre felt that a draw was a fair result in the final match of the season against Clyde:-
"I don't think either side did enough to win the game. In the second half we did better but not enough to win the game. Overall it was a poor game; the conditions were very tricky but there wasn't a lot of quality in the game."
The Manager acknowledged that the season had ended well with three wins and a draw but more importantly now he needs to take that into next season.
"You look to start every campaign as positively as you can. We have bounced back well from the disappointment of the semi final result and finished as well as we could have finished in terms of league place. That was pleasing, it showed good character from the players so I was quite pleased with that. We will take the break now and think about that in a few weeks time."
At the end of the first full season of the McIntyre era at East End Park, Macca reviewed it saying:-
"There has definitely been progress. When we took over we were second bottom and we finished fifth. We finished third this year, albeit not where we wanted to finish. We got to the semi of one cup and the quarter final of another so that's definitely progress. Is it as much progress as I would have liked? No, I'd liked to have done better in the league and mounted more of a challenge.
"We did that in the first half of the season but faded a bit in the second. One thing we need to sort out for next year is our home form if we are going to be challenging."
Prior to kick off Scott Wilson and Scott Thomson said their goodbyes to the club, the Manager praised the contribution of the two who between them had served the club for 18 years:-
"It's been a fantastic. Scott Thomson has been here 11 years and been a great servant. For three of those years he was really unlucky with injury and they missed him then because he is a very good player. I always rated him when I played against him; he did a great job here.
"Likewise Scott Wilson always gave you a tough game. They were two good characters in the dressing room as well, so they will be a big miss that way as well. Times change and things move on. That's what happening so it will be very difficult to replace them."
The Manager also paid tribute to the two on loan players leaving the club:-
"Rory Loy and Jamie Mole have done well and I have to thank Hearts and Rangers for allowing them to come here and help us out when we were short up front. To be fair to Rory, I have played him out of position a few times in what was not his natural position but he did well today."
