Glass and Bayne Post Semi
Monday, 27th Apr 2009No disrespect to Falkirk, and good luck to them in the Final, but I don't think we performed or gave ourselves any chance.
Like his team mates, Stephen Glass was down after Sunday's Semi Final. He described how he felt things had gone:-
"When you come to a Semi Final there's only one result you are wanting however you get it but we got the one that we weren't wanting. It is a big disappointment.
"We thought that if we came here and performed that we would have a real chance. We know what they are capable of as well but the disappointment for us is that we didn't perform. No disrespect to Falkirk and good luck to them in the final but I don't think we performed or gave ourselves any chance.
"They did what they are good at and they could possibly have played better as well; I'm sure that they are aware of that. Our limitations today came from ourselves rather than anything they did."
Stephen explained how after the interval they had hoped to get their game into gear:-
"That was obviously the aim; we never really performed in the first half and we came out still well in the game. We could go in, get ourselves picked up and come and have a real go. We probably did have a wee go but then they got the goal and once they got their tails up a bit, the second one just kills it.
"I think from the start you have to do better. The difficulty was that they penned us in first half. They kept possession, tire you a bit - that's probably their aim - they never threatened us that much in the first half but all the while they have got the ball you are chasing them. That's good tactics on their part and disappointing for us."
Had the size of the pitch contributed?
"When you are chasing the ball it does. It is important that you keep it when you have got it. Right throughout the team we didn't do well enough. They were aware, playing on the same size of pitch, they kept the ball well enough so you don't get boys tired.
"It wasn't a great pitch but they were playing on it as well. There was a bit more awareness on both teams parts because of the game yesterday. When we are away from East End we play on worse pitches than that regularly in the First Division."
Graham Bayne sorely conceded that Falkirk would be the place that's buzzing on Sunday night:-
"Everybody says that the Semi Final is the worst to lose and it definitely feels like that right now. We know that we can play better than that, I don't think either team played particularly good stuff.
"Falkirk knocked the ball about at times and got the massive result. There weren't many clear cut chances from open play. In the end when you look at it we got done by a header at a setpiece and a penalty kick.
"It was my first time here personally and I have had a taste of it. It feels horrible right now but the build up was fantastic. This is the kind of level of games that you want to be involved in every time and why you want to get out of the division we are in. Everybody knows how hard it is and how hard it is to get to Semi Finals. In national competitions it's not easy, we have done well to get here we just wish that we had done better."
