Andy Kirk Post Clyde
Saturday, 20th Dec 2008"Obviously when we got it to 4-3 it gave us a bit of an emphasis. It was another great goal; a great touch from Baynee and a great finish from Nicky.
Andy Kirk got what he described as "a bit of a whack on the ankle bone" and was one of the last to leave East End Park on Saturday after the 4-4 draw with Clyde. Talking exclusively to the website, Andy said "it's just a kick, there will be a bit of tenderness for a couple of days." He was confident that he would be fine for next Saturday's game against Livingston:-
"It was one of the centre halves and it came from a cross, Rory (Loy) crossed it and I was trying to the near post to volley it. I hit the ball, he has just gone to block it and his stud caught me on the ankle.
"I am always pleased to score goals but I am just disappointed that we didn't play terribly well in the first half. After giving away a stupid goal early on, we got ourselves back into it. We went and took the lead early in the second half and possibly should have gone 3-1 up but it is hard to put your finger on what's going wrong at home at the minute. We conceded goals to go 4-2 down."
When Andy scored just 80 seconds into the second half it looked as though he had set his team up to go on and secure all three points:-
"Calum put in a great ball, he put a great ball in last week as well, I was just trying to watch the flight of it because there was a defender just in front and still back-pedalling. I thought if he missed it I could get myself in a position where I could have a go at goal. There was enough to get a wee touch on it, maybe not the best finish in the world but it was always going in."
The next Kirk goal in 72nd minute was an early Christmas present as Clyde keeper David Hutton all but gift wrapped the chance:-
"You get them throughout the season. The keeper has come running out as he tried to clear it, he has just mis-kicked it and fortunately for me it has just landed at my feet. I took a good touch and rolled it into the empty net."
With the score at 4-3 behind and 18 minutes left on the clock Andy felt that his team mates had every faith that they could go on and score at least another one.
"One thing about the boys we have is that they never lie down, they always believe. They just keep going and keep going. Obviously when we got it to 4-3 it gave us a bit of an emphasis. It was another great goal; a great touch from Baynee and a great finish from Nicky.
"At four each I felt that we could maybe go on and clinch it 5-4 to try and get this home form back on track. It wasn't to be but there was good character and good belief coming from 4-2 down even though we are extremely disappointed conceding four goals at home.
"It's hard to take because we have been so inconsistent at home. Every week we go out at home trying to put things right but we never seem to get there. We have a great bunch of players, coaching staff, manager and we work hard in training. I don't know what it is that we need to do to win all three points."
The next opportunity to record a home win since defeating Partick Thistle 1-0 on 18th October follows hard on the Clyde match:-
"The good thing is there is another home game coming up soon. We need to concentrate on the game and not concern ourselves about what the recent home form has been. We have to go out with another good attitude, hopefully next week can be the turning point."
Andy thinks the players may get Christmas Day off as their day off this week but they might not find that out until Monday. His family are now re-located with a house in Dunfermline. His children are at local schools and looking forward to it all.
"It would be the first Christmas Day that I have had off in a while" added Andy. "Christmas just falls in between our preparation for the next game, that's the most important thing for us."
