Manager Post QOS

Saturday, 13th Dec 2008

"Every win is important. That's only sixteen games so we just need to look after our own affairs and see where it takes us.

Incident that led to the winning goal

Jim McIntyre started off his post match analysis by explaining what he thought happened at the winning goal:-

"Their keeper came running out. I had my back to play and their defender was trying to mark me, behind me. He gathered the ball and ran into his own man. I never actually saw it but that's what I thought happened.

Incident that led to the winning goal

"I was trying to reach the ball but it was just too high for me. Big Baynee has been on hand just to stick it away."

Given that the Manager had to choose who to withdraw to give Rory Loy his debut Graham Bayne's success warranted the withdrawal of Andy Kirk in 62 minutes:-

"We signed Rory on loan from Rangers and we had several chances in the first half that we didn't take. I just wanted to throw the boy on and give him a chance. I thought he did very well. He gave us real pace, he had clever link up play as well and was unlucky on one or two occasions but I am quite excited with the prospects for Rory, he looked the part."

Asked whether or not the loan could extend beyond the initial period until the end of January, Jim replied:-

"He is here for six weeks so we will judge that not over thirty minutes but over six games."

St Johnstone's result was the first thought after the game and although the Perth men won their match against Morton 1-0 the Dunfermline gaffer warned that the campaign is not yet at the half way stage:-

"Every win is important. That's only sixteen games so we just need to look after our own affairs and see where it takes us. You don't want to lose any ground on the leaders and we have not done that so that is important."

Reflecting on the progress under the McIntyre regime that now extends beyond 12 months the gaffer added:-

"It's all about the team from the kit man right through to the players, we are a unit - we win together, we lose together I know it is an old cliche but that's the way it is. The thing that most pleased me today is the way they kept going even though we missed really good chances. There were four one on ones that we missed but the belief was there to keep at it and keep trying. Our goalkeeper had a couple of decent saves in the second half as well."

The early goal from Nick Phinn gave Dunfermline the best of possible starts:-

"You always think that these things can come back to haunt you so I was glad to see that one go in with a couple of minutes to go."

Of course the win came after the Manager had decided to bring himself on:-

"We did it a couple of weeks ago when we were drawing at Livingston. Draws are no use in this league, you need to try and win as many games as possible. Sometimes these things pay off, sometimes they don't. You need that bit of luck along the way."

The Dumfries journalists suggested that the performance might have been the best Dunfermline had played this season but of course they had not been at Perth in August:-

"No St Johnstone away was probably the performance of the season. We played very well at Dundee United and lost. Our attacking play was very good, I thought we cut them open a few times. On the day we weren't clinical enough."
