Andy Kirk Post Dundee
Monday, 10th Nov 2008"In the last three games that's maybe the first shot I've had on target and the keeper's had to save so it's been indifferent, but the other night we still managed to score three great goals.
Andy Kirk was extremely disappointed with Saturday's result:-
"Especially being the home team. We've been on a good run of late but we were brought down to earth today.
"I don't think we've played very well over the last two or three weeks and we were punished for it today.
"We probably played worse on Tuesday night and ended up scoring three good goals and winning the game and sometimes that hides the things that are maybe wrong but we need to get back on the training ground and start working hard to put things right."
Did Andy know what went wrong against Dundee and how that might be rectified on the training ground?
"I don't know it's hard to say. We'll have to watch the video and things like that. We maybe just didn't create; we haven't been creating a lot of chances during the game and what was getting success at the start of the season. We've maybe just tailed off a bit but we need to pinpoint what the problems are and start working hard in training trying to put it right because we need to start getting results again."
Andy scored seven goals in his first 13 matches for Dunfermline but has hit a drought in the four matches since scoring against Partick Thistle on 18th October. He talked about Rab Douglas's save that denied him a goal just four minutes before Dundee grabbed what turned out to be the winner:-
"In the last three games that's maybe the first shot I've had on target and the keeper's had to save so it's been indifferent, but the other night we still managed to score three great goals.
"Goals are coming from different players but it's frustrating when you're a forward and chances aren't coming. It's a hard result to take but we've got to forget about it quickly and come in on Monday, have a look at the video, get it out of our minds and start working towards the next game.
"There's not a week goes by when I don't think I'm going to score, if I get the chances I'll score goals but sometimes you go on runs where you don't get chances. You've just got to work hard and with the mentality of the Manager, the coaching staff and the players as well will put it right.
"We were trying to make our home a bit of a fortress but it's tailed off the last two games and we're very, very disappointed with the results."
The formula for success will be the ability to string a sequence of good results together. Andy suggested something like the League leaders where they have taken 25 points from the last 27 available:-
"St Johnstone have gone on a great run. We haven't really had a run like that. Two's probably the most we've won in a row. If we can put a run together of three or four wins there's no reason we can't be up there. We've just got to start doing the things that brought us success at the start of the season.
"I don't think there's one team that's outplayed us. We maybe half an off half and then the second half pick up but having played all the teams I don't think we've anything to fear."
