Stephen Glass Post St Johnstone

Monday, 3rd Nov 2008

"I have cleared the ball and he has kept running. I put my foot up; you leave your foot and you protect yourself. He ran in to it basically.

Stephen Glass v St Johnstone 01/11/08

Stephen Glass had already enquired on the health of Kevin Moon to St Johnstone Manager Derek McInnes before he came out to speak to the press on Saturday. His concern followed the unwelcome sight of the 21 year old midfielder being stretchered off after a challenge in which the two came together. Understandably Stephen`s first comments were on the 29th minute incident:-

"I have caught him in the stomach and there was a bad reaction. I do not know what happened there but I have had the chance to speak to their Manager and hopefully he is ok. Sometimes that can happen.

"I didn`t think the ref gave a foul. Kevin was running in to shut me down, I have cleared the ball and he has kept running. I put my foot up; you leave your foot and you protect yourself. He ran in to it basically. I have passed the ball but because of what has happened the ref has given them a foul and booked me. That`s the disappointing part of it. The most important is that the boy is alright."

Stephen had not realised the seriousness of Moon`s injury:-

"I didn`t at the time when it happened but obviously as he was lying on the ground I could see that he was in a bit of trouble. I knew that I caught him in the stomach so I was worried about him. He is just a young guy so fingers crossed that he is alright.

"I am not going about kicking people or trying to hurt them. I am trying to win the game for my team but disappointed that happened."

That said Stephen reflected on what he considered to have been a good game:-

"It was two good teams and the quality of the goals from them were excellent. Martin Hardie`s goal was a great bit of technique from them and then Liam Craig stuck one away as well. Their Manager will be saying these were goals worthy to win a game for them. It is disappointing for us because they have not really cut us open until we went a bit gun ho at the end.

"You lose the game; that can happen against any team with strikes like that. Disappointing for us but they will be well pleased and happy to redeem themselves for the game earlier in the season."
