Andy Kirk Post Clyde
Saturday, 4th Oct 2008"It was just a good ball and there was nothing else to do apart from take a touch and try and put it in the net.
Andy Kirk's popularity with Pars fans took another rise after firing his side ahead at Broadwood. He recognised it was a great result:-
"It's a hard place to come but we showed good determination and worked hard. We took our chances when we got them and it was a good game. Clyde are a good side and it was an important three points for us."
All this on a very wet Broadwood pitch:-
"It didn't look too bad to the eye but it was very very heavy. We have one of the fittest guys in the world playing at the back for us (Calum Woods) and he got cramp on his calf. If he gets cramp it must have been heavy. We adapted to the conditions and we are delighted with the three points."
The pitch could not stop Andy shooting the Pars ahead in 37 minutes when he was on the end of a fine ball from Kevin Harper:-
"It was good ball, I'd made a good run to start with. The ball never came but I turned and just caught his eyes. He played it inside and I managed to go in and finish it. It was just a good ball and there was nothing else to do apart from take a touch and try and put it in the net.
"It was good for us to go in at half time 2-0. Although 2-0 is a dodgy scoreline it seems; if they come out and get a goal it can be a bit hard but we kept a clean sheet and we got two goals, that was pleasing for us but the most important thing was the win."
The three points mean that Dunfermline are only three points behind the only two teams ahead of them, Andy reflected how important digging in at Cappielow the previous Saturday to get one point was important:-
"Last week we got the draw that we deserved, today we got the win we deserved and we must keep building on that for the rest of the season. There have been games where we haven't played well in but should have maybe gone on and won. Against Airdrie at home we dominated the game but just couldn't get the goal but we are right up there now in the mix with a quarter of the way gone. We need to keep ourselves close to that pack."
Maintaining that he was at Dunfermline to score goals the Northern Irishman and the form of Ross Campbell in the reserves made little difference to him:-
"I will be looking to scoring goals, that's my job and main factor of every game. I am working hard on other bits of my game but my goalscoring has always been my thing and I'll be trying to score as many goals as I can throughout the season."
Andy came close to adding to his total against Clyde:-
"It sort of skipped up and wouldn't come down. I was trying to chest it but I was hoping it was going to drop and I could have volleyed it but it stayed up high and I couldn't get the strike off but we are pleased enough with 2-0."
