Steven Bell Post Ross County
Saturday, 20th Sep 2008"It was a good result for us today, it was massive because we had to win. We cannot afford to keep dropping points at home.
Steven Bell was glad to open his Pars goalscoring account against Ross County:-
"Simon (Wiles) cut in and shot a good shot with his left foot. I thought the keeper was going to catch it but he just palmed it over and I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time. I headed it down and saw it go over the line, I cannot really remember much about it, I was just delighted to get it."
Steven's goal was his first since scoring for Stirling Albion against Dunfermline on 25th March and having returned from injury the 23 year old is keen to keep his place in the team.
"It is good to come in and get a goal. I am looking to keep my place in the team now - the gaffer has brought me here to score goals by getting beyond the strikers and create stuff. Hopefully I will be playing Tuesday now."
Scott Thomson had an admirer in Bell who confessed not to be a free kick specialist:-
"That was a great strike and it was good to get an early goal, we needed it because they were all over us in the first five minutes. We were still finding our feet when Nipper popped up with that. He does it in training and we all know that he can do it."
After Ross County scored with Steven Craig's 58th minute goal the Pars were under pressure;-
"They were starting to come into it, getting the goal and two minutes after I came back on after getting the knee in the ribs. I had got winded and was still trying to find my breath. The guy getting sent off killed the game a wee bit."
Steven considered that it was a bad touch by him that contributed to Richie Hart's second yellow card and the consequential red:-
"He came in late and he did catch me. They were still getting on the ball, they are a good passing team and I felt they still tried to create. Ross County will not do badly this season, they are a decent team. They are good in midfield and Steven Craig is a proven goalscorer at this level.
"It was a good result for us today, it was massive because we had to win. We cannot afford to keep dropping points at home. We didn't play our best but we have played better and not won. It is a results driven business, it's all about that."
Steven Bell is congratulated by Austin McCann and Nick Phinn
Steven is keen to retain his place against St Mirren in Tuesday night's Co-operative Insurance Cup since he has only twice played against SPL opponents. He was on the losing team both times; 1-6 at home for Stirling v Inverness Caley Thistle and 0-2 at home to Hearts in the Scottish Cup and CIS Cup respectively.
"We had a lot of young boys at Stirling, including myself - I was young and niaive at the time. I'm keen to play at that level, the gaffer has a lot of faith in me so I want to test myself at that level. I am looking forward to it if I play."
