Sunday 22 March Kick Off 1.30 pm - Admission Free

Dunfermline Athletic Football Club

With 3 SCOTS, the 3rd Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland (The Black Watch) just about to embark upon a seven month tour of duty in Afghanistan, its soldiers will do battle of a different kind this weekend (Sunday 22 March 2009) when they take on the might of Dunfermline Athletic FC Under 19s at East End Park.

Entrance to the game is free, however there will be a collection in aid of The Army Benevolent Fund (Scotland). Entry to the ground can be from Legends Bar which will be open from 12.30pm or by the turnstile which opens from 1pm, with kick-off at 1.30pm.

Captain Atholl Stewart from 3 SCOTS, explained:  "We are naturally honoured and delighted to be playing at East End Park, which to many of our soldiers is the Mecca of football.  This is the first time that serving soldiers from 3 SCOTS have played DAFC Under 19s and we're looking forward to showing off skills not normally associated with our soldiers.  We hope that both sets of supporters on the day will dig deep and raise a lot of money for a very worthy cause.

"On paper, the Dunfermline squad look strong, but it's on the pitch where it matters most.  I'm sure Dunfermline's U19 squad will do all they can to keep us at bay, but as we were quarter finalists in last year's Infantry Cup, they certainly have their work cut out."

Craig McWhirter, DAFC Director of Youth added:  "We will be delighted to welcome the 3 SCOTS, families and supporters, to East End Park this Sunday. Very few of us in civilian life can appreciate the sacrifices made by our Armed Forces, and I would therefore like to echo Captain Stewart's comments, and urge all who attend to give as generously as they can.

On the footballing front, whilst I admire Captain Stewart's optimism, I would temper it by saying that Hamish French will not turn up unprepared. I'm sure it will be a good clean game as neither side will want any injuries. I'm sure the young DAFC lads will be quietly confident.

I hope it turns out to be a great day and a fitting send off for the 3 SCOTS. They have given superb support to Dunfermline Athletic; to the Youths in particular, and I'm delighted we have a chance to show our appreciation. Our thoughts will be with them over the next seven months and beyond."
