Managers Post Partick

Saturday, 14th Mar 2009

"I have just shown the ref our offside 'goal' on the video and it is a mile onside and it is a big, big mistake. We are talking at least two yards onside; it is not in line with the player.

Jim McIntyre

Jim McIntyre spoke to the press after emerging from speaking to the match officials; it was clear that he felt that he had been cheated out of a result by a poor decision from a match official. Stephen Wright had shown them the Pars TV footage that clearly indicated that the referee's assistant had made a drastic mistake in ruling Nick Phinn offside when he netted midway through the second half:-

"I have just shown the ref our offside 'goal' on the video and it is a mile onside and it is a big, big mistake. We are talking at least two yards onside; it is not in line with the player.

"It is a massive point in the game when we were looking for a wee kick start there. You hope that you have got that but he has denied us that. In the first half hour we started the same way as we did against Livingston. We passed the ball really well and got into good positions, we just didn't have that finishing touch.

"Partick scored with their first foray into the box. It was a definite penalty and they have stuck it away. It has taken the wind out of our sails a bit.

"Second half I thought we huffed and puffed. We were trying to change the formation a couple of times just to kick start something and obviously the goal (that wasn't given) was so disappointing.

"It was vital. It was an equalising goal and goals change games. Partick got a wee lift after they scored and I'm sure we would have done as well. It was a big decision in the game."

Jim was asked how that result might affect his side with a big cup replay coming up against Aberdeen.

"It is a cup tie, it is a one off - we have acquitted ourselves well this year against Premierleague teams but it is going to be a really tough place to go but it is up to us to go up there and put on a performance. We will have to do better than that today. If we continue to pass the ball like we did in the first half hour today and as we did the other night we should be fine but we have to remain brave. Keep passing the ball when things are not going well because the conditions today made it really difficult for longer balls.

"I want to play football and keep it on the deck and that is when we were actually moving Partick about well, when we kept it on the floor, passed it and kept it one or two touch."

Ian McCall

Partick Thistle Manager Ian McCall said:-

"We put a lot of pressure on the back four and the defensive midfield. We broke away at times really good. We had some great passing and if we had scored another goal it would have become comfortable. They have not got a good home record Dunfermline. I have played here and the crowd can be a bit naughty at times."

The Thistle Manager brushed aside suggestions that his team has to be real contenders to join the SPL:-

"I don't know, Willie Kinniburgh is in for an operation on Friday and that's us down to 16 players so I would still say that it is very doubtful but you never know. Dunfermline and Dundee are still very much in it, Livingston are still in it. There's a long way to go but the good thing for us is St Johnstone with the money they have spent, all the pressure is on them and we will just go along and just try and win football matches."
