Dunfermline Athletic are delighted to announce extensions to the contracts of two of their rising stars, Nick Phinn and Calum Woods. They have both signed extensions to their contracts this afternoon that will keep them at East End Park until the end of May 2011.
Calum Woods who was 22 last month, is a product of the Liverpool Soccer Academy and he played many games for the Reds at U17 and U19 level. He was spotted early on as a talent and played with the Liverpool Academy from the age of 10. He broke into the the U17 side midway through the 2002/03 season playing mostly on the left wing, and caught the eye with some promising displays.
Versatile and two footed, Calum played right back, left back and in both wide midfield positions before leaving the Merseyside club to join Dunfermline in 2006. Since then he has started 62 matches for the Pars, made 12 appearances off the bench and famously scored that goal at Airdrie in November.
Nick Phinn is a product of the Pars youth development system. The midfielder made his first team debut in 2005-2006 aged 17, and has been developing ever since. Under Jim McIntyre, Nick has become a regular starter in a central midfield role and his performances, and his ten goals this term, justify it.
Nick was signed from Hearts Boys Club at Under 13 level, before progressing through the ranks of the Under 14s, 15s and 16s. Aged 17 years 5 months and 28 days he became Dunfermline Athletic's youngest ever player to start an SPL match - against Falkirk at the Falkirk Stadium.
The 20 year old has now made 48 appearances for Dunfermline plus another 11 off the bench.
