Derek Young Post Cup Tie
Saturday, 7th Mar 2009"It was always going to be a tough one, we know that they are a good side but we should have had enough in our locker to keep them out. They put up a good fight and had decent chances themselves.
It was just Derek Young's second trip back to Dunfermline since leaving for St Johnstone in August 2006. Subsequently he was a member of the Partick Thistle team knocked out of the 2006-07 Scottish Cup in February 2007 and it was the same competition that brought him back to East End Park on Saturday this time with Aberdeen.
"It was frustrating but we knew that we did not start the game well. We finished the first half quite well and then in the second half I thought we did really well. It was just unfortunate that we didn't see the game out after we got the goal.
"It was always going to be a tough one, we know that they are a good side but we should have had enough in our locker to keep them out. They put up a good fight and had decent chances themselves. Maybe it was a fair result in the end.
"We need to get through to the semi final to make up for last year. I am pretty sure that we will do it."
Derek claimed that his 28 and a half years had equipped him for the kind of greeting he got from the East End Park crowd:-
"I played here with Partick and got quite a good reception, it just shows you what a change of jersey does. It was good to be involved in the team again; there are a few times lately when I have been on the bench and not got on.
"It was good to be involved and a fantastic finish from Sone."
