Stephen Glass Post Morton
Sunday, 1st Mar 2009Iron side too tough for Pars. "They are a big team and they play to their strengths.
St Johnstone and Dundee took just a point each from their fixture at McDiarmid Park but the Pars dropped yet another point behind. After seven weeks out through injury Stephen Glass was unable to stop Morton taking points off Dunfermline yet again. The Pars have now taken only one point from the three meetings this season and the defeat on Saturday could not have come at a worse time.
Davie Irons' side were tough and uncompromising, the Pars Vice Captain gave his opinions:-
"We knew what Morton were going to be like. Coming down here is going to be a tough game
"Their striker is good at what he does and brings other players into the game. He managed to do that, they got a bit of an upper hand and we never managed to overcome that.
"They are a big team and they play to their strengths. They have every right to do that and we need to cope with that better than we did. Then our own game can maybe take over; we never really took care of the physical side of the game at Morton.
"We got a late goal here earlier in the season when we managed to push on and get an equaliser, obviously that is in the back of the lads minds as the game has gone on.
"We had to push and try and get that goal. Play a little more free when you are getting beat and there is not a lot of time left. That has to start earlier."
Dunfermline remain fourth but now bottom club Airdrie United are closer to them than they are to St Johnstone at the top. Stephen commented on keeping promotion hopes alive:-
"We know how important it is to be winning games at this stage. If you don't get any points you are definitely losing ground, that is a big disappointment and we need to get that going again for Tuesday. It is a big game and the games are coming quick."
St Johnstone on 44 points are nine points ahead, Partick sit second on 41 and Dundee third on 38. Dunfermline have a game in hand on the Tayside clubs but that, against Ross County will be played on Tuesday. Two games remain against St Johnstone and these will be crucial in clawing back that nine point deficit. Stephen continued:-
"It is not too much. There are a lot more teams who think they can win it now so that helps the teams like ourselves that are in touching distance. Hopefully the other teams around can help us but they will be looking for us to help them."
