Austin needs to overpower County

"It was a good tough game the last game at East End one so we're expecting the same again

Austin McCann feels that confidence is high after the last couple of results, but now it's back to the league and it's important for the team to get a win.

"We ground it out last week against Thistle and scored two good goals in midweek. We can't afford to drop any more points.  Ross County like to get the ball down and play. It was a good tough game the last game at East End one so we're expecting the same again."

The Pars are hoping that league leaders St Johnstone might slip up along the way with Saturday's trip to Dumfries not being the easiest hurdle for the Perth club:-

"St Johnstone's next couple of fixtures look quite tough so hopefully they'll drop a couple of points and we can capitalise, but firstly we've got to look after ourselves, get the win, then get in the dressing room and find out the other results.

"It's hard to explain the difference between our home and away form. Teams come to East End Park thinking it's a big scalp for them if they get a result and maybe set themselves up differently. We just need to go out with the same mentality as we do away from home.

"We've been unlucky a couple of times and not had the breaks in home games and the first goal is vitally important so if we can get that it'll settle us down and hopefully we can go on and get the win.

"The Manager left me out earlier because he thought I was short of confidence but he told me he thinks it's back and that I'm back to what I was doing earlier in the season. You always get wee dips now and again, but I've worked hard and got myself back in. No-one can be comfortable with their position. There's competition all over the pitch for place and everyone's got to look over their shoulders. That's the way it is in football and I've had that throughout my career."

Competition for places is no bad thing and Austin knows that it keeps everyone on their toes and it's good for the team:-

"You have to play well to stay in the team and that can only helps us on the field to get results. The First Division is more competitive than I remember when I was at Airdrie. Airdrie are bottom of the league and they're looking like the best team we've played all season. They are four or five points adrift at the foot of the table it just shows you how tough the league is."
