The sessions at the impressive facilities in Obertraun were gruelling and the players were sent to cool down in the ice cold waters of the nearby river after each session.  Also at the Obertraun base are the players and officials from the Championship side, Preston North End.Prominent in the Lancashire club's training were familiar faces, Barry Nicholson and Calum Davidson (formerly of St Johnstone as well as Michael Hart.

Jim McIntyre commented after the pre-season friendly against Metalurh came to an abrupt end after seven minutes of the second half:

"They knocked the ball about lovely but never took our chances. One mistake and we got punished.  It was a good exercise against a good team.

I've never seen conditions like that, I've seen them in training when we had to run off in Austria, but I had never seen them in a game situation. It was just becoming farcical so there was no point.  The players got 60 minutes out of it so that was perfect for us.That is a good opener in terms of game time.
