Fife is Bayne of his life

Monday, 30th Jun 2008

"It is fantastic that somebody has that faith in you, shows the belief in you and has the patience to wait and pursue you. I just hope I can repay the gaffer."

Graham Bayne

Graham Bayne's high opinion of Dunfermline assisted his decision to leave Inverness and come to East End Park.

"There are a number of big clubs in the First Division and Dunfermline are definitely up there and ambitious. The Manager has made a few cut backs and he seems to be getting the right players in. Our aim will be to be up there with the teams at the top of the league.  I felt the time was right family-wise and career-wise for me to move on."

The 28 year old still had a year left on his contract in the Highlands but he wanted to be playing every week and with a new born it was time for him and his wife to take the opportunity to move back to Fife. The move was dependent on Andrew Barrowman moving from Ross County to Caley Thistle and that seemed to take an eternity to happen.

"It was always up to Inverness what they wanted to do. The Manager was absolutely fantastic all the way through it." The experience playing for Craig Brewster was greatly valued by the new Par who added "I get on really well with him and I wish him all the best."

Graham joked that you don't get much for your money these days but was honoured that Dunfermline had paid to have him join them:-

"It is fantastic that somebody has that faith in you, shows the belief in you and has the patience to wait and pursue you. I just hope I can repay the gaffer."

Graham had grown fond of Inverness but looking around Pitreavie on Monday he was reminiscent of his times visiting the Dunfermline playing fields while playing for his local boys club, Ladybank Violet.

"I don't really know any of the boys very well. I know Alex Burke and although I wasn't at Ross County at the same time but with being in the area I met him through friends. It will be nice to have a friendly face to help you bed in. The boys have been fantastic; a few of them pulled me through the running session this morning."

Even though it sounded like it was already a reality, Graham pledged to bring hard work to his new club:-

"If I can fit in with their style of play, if I can create a few chances to help the team and score a few goals it will be a nice bonus. First and foremost I must get myself in the team and start doing well to propel ourselves to the right end of the table. We are an SPL team."

Jim McIntyre was pleased to discuss his latest acquisition, Graham Bayne who arrived from Inverness Caley Thistle on a two year deal. The Dunfermline boss feels that he will be the ideal target man:-

"He is strong in the air and can hold the ball up. He is good with his back to play and I felt it important to bring another target man to the team, especially with my own injury record. It was important to strengthen with somebody a lot younger."

Unlikely to be described as an out and out goalscorer, Graham will undoubtedly set up goals. His new boss accepted:-

"That's fine, his strength's his team play. He works hard, runs the channels - he is just a good all round team player."

Within minutes however Macca was adding that he was still in the hunt for two more strikers:-

"We are working hard behind the scenes to try and make it happen but it is very very slow at the minute. As I said the other day, I am not prepared to sign somebody just to make up the numbers."

Former Rangers goalkeeper Calum Reidford is on trial at Dunfermline and will more than likely travel to Austria with the squad for the pre season training camp at Obertraun.

"We will make a decision on that after Austria."
