EAST FIFE 0 DUNFERMLINE 3
East Fife and Dunfermline Athletic Football Clubs remembered the life of a promising young footballer on Tuesday evening.
18 year old Alex Scougall died in a road accident in Midlothian last May. To pay tribute to the youngster, East Fife's U19 squad played their Dunfermline counterparts at new Bayview on Tuesday in a specially arranged memorial fixture. Alex spent some time in the yout set up at Dunfermline Athletic before joining East Fife.
It was an XI of under 17 players who took on a more experienced under 19 side from East Fife, a side that included former Pars youth player Davie Muir and several players who had played with Alex.
Dunfermline thoroughly deserved their win and took the lead from a beautifully flighted ball in from the right from Jed Heroz that was headed down at the near post by Nico Gibson. The home keeper managed to parry the ball but Jason HUNTER shot the loose ball into the net.
Although they enjoyed a lot of the play, creating numerous half chances the Pars had to thank Scott Weddell for a saving tackle inside his own box that prevented East Fife equalising just before half time.
Numerous changes were made at half time allowing the watching management team, Jim McIntyre, Gerry McCabe and Stephen Wright to view as many hopefuls as possible since contracts could be offered for inclusion in next season's under 19 squad.
Chris LENNON outpaced the East Fife defence from just inside their half and progressed down the right channel before dispatching the ball passed the advancing keeper from 14 yards.
Five minutes from time a good sweeping move sealed the victory with Jordan White placing the ball in the path of John McDONALD who fired home from 20 yards.
