Darren Young Post Clyde
Monday, 14th Apr 2008"None of us could hold our hand up and say that we were playing well in the first half.
Darren Young felt that the first 45 minutes against Clyde on Saturday was some of the worst that Dunfermline have played for a long time:-
"From our point of view it was a bad goal to lose but the Manager had a few words and changed it around at half time.In the second half you saw the difference. We came out like an entirely different team but as he says, we have got to be doing that for the full 90 minutes.
"None of us could hold our hand up and say that we were playing well in the first half. We created a few more chances and looked a lot more solid at the back.
"We managed to get the penalty and they were a bit lucky that the guy (Billy Gibson) has not been sent off. Craw is through on the goalkeeper and he has taken him down, he didn't even get a booking. Strange decision but we got the goal and got ourselves back in it.
"Then a great goal from great play from Craw down the wing and then a good ball in for Macca to finish it."
The Manager in his post match comments expressed his desire to turn East End Park into a fortress.Since Darren joined Dunfermline from Aberdeen in the summer of 2003, there have been times when it has been just that:-
"Over the years when we have had success it has been based on our home games. We have had great runs back in the Jimmy Calderwood days and under Leish and Robbo we had good victories at home.
"It is the basis - if teams are scared to come here, we can pick up the points and then go away from home and just battle yourself up the league."
Queen of the South and Partick Thistle were on cup business over the weekend so the three points takes Dunfermline above them into fourth position in the First Division:-
"We have managed to get ourselves in that fourth spot. There's two weeks to go and I would be hopeful that two victories will keep us there."
Dunfermline are unbeaten since Darren returned to the team at Stirling at the end of March. With his contract expiring at the end of the season he acknowledged that it was important for him:-
"Me and Scotty Muirhead were just saying that; three victories and a draw. Personally I wasn't too happy how I played, I can still play a lot better and I did play slightly better in the second half."
Darren's brother, Derek was a member of the Aberdeen side knocked out of the Scottish Cup by Queen of the South in the Semi Final played earlier in the day. Darren had texted a good luck message in the morning but he knew it wouldn't be a walkover for Jimmy Calderwood's Aberdeen when they met Queen of the South. His view of clubs in the First Division - "It is just a battle; every game this season has been a battle."
As close as it gets it seems for Derek and Darren Young
