Stevie Crawford Post Saints

Monday, 31st Mar 2008

"There's plenty to play for; you don't go onto the park to make up the numbers. The Manager knows what he is wanting from us and we want performances to be better.

Stevie Crawford spoke to the media after hitting the equaliser that ensured a point :-

"It is great to have come back from behind albeit we are not settling that we will settle for draws anywhere. We managed to nick a point but at least we showed a bit of character to get back in the game."

Stevie's 77th minute goal was not one of the easiest he has ever netted but he was really glad to bury the ghost that haunted him at Forthbank in the previous league game:-

"Shieldsie played the ball through and I managed to get in on the goalside of Allan McManus,  I heard Macca shouting and I actually thought about hitting it earlier. I got across the defender and struck it well.

"I was disappointed on Tuesday night - there was a sitter I missed from three or four yards after taking a great touch.  I should have hit it low and hard, the surface was wet.

"Maybe I'm hard on myself, its been frustrating this season but in the second half I went round the keeper and Kevin Harper shouted. There are wee things that make your mind up and it wasn't lucky that it fell to Kevin's feet the other night."

There had been fears that Stevie's game might have been over before he had got going and before Dunfermline could make any impact on the third placed team:-

"Allan McManus caught me on the calf early doors but there was nothing malicious about it. His knee caught me, it was a bit of a sore one to take but it is just a case of running through it. It was not as if it was a pull or anything.

"It did linger and it was affecting my running but it was just a case of gritting my teeth and get on with it. Give St Johnstone credit because they have a great home record and they knocked the ball about really well in the first half. We tried to reshape a wee bit and got a wee bit more of the ball in the second half.

"I knew coming into this division, having been in it with Hibs and Raith Rovers that you don't get any presents. If you find yourself off the pace after the first quarter, it is there for all to see.  There is no point crying over spilt milk. we're where we are because we haven't been playing to a high enough level.  We have to build on that now for next season.

"There's plenty to play for; you don't go onto the park to make up the numbers. The Manager knows what he is wanting from us and we want  performances to be better."

"It's been a disappointing season for the supporters and disappointing for everybody connected with the club.  Hamilton, Dundee, St Johnstone and Queen of the South; they have gone about the business in the right manner and that is something that we will work on over the summer.
